In-studio Classes by Barbara
Barbara introduces a comprehensive program in calligraphy and related art techniques. The program presents a logical course-study based on a solid foundation in historic & contemporary letterforms, layout and design, materials and tools, book design and business applications.
Each course will build on the previously learned skills and techniques; and students will be encouraged to develop creatively using knowledge gained in each unique session.

The courses are designed to be completed within a year, with a beautifully designed certificate of achievement at the end of the program. Students may enter the program at the beginning of each session, but not mid-course.

Schedule:  8-week Sessions - Wednesday Evenings - 6:30 p.m.-9:00 p.m. = $150.00

Session I: Monoline Romans
Building a strong foundation in structure of letterform is of utmost importance. We will begin with Monoline Roman and Foundational Hands so that the student develops a good understanding of form, spacing and layout.

Session II: Uncial/Gothic
Uncial and Gothic upright hands and will continue the flow from previous session. Uncial is a round-style, where Gothic is tall and narrow. Both make great textures on the pages.

Session III: Italics/ Copperplate
Italic is a graceful hand and will be taught using the broad-edged pen. There will be something to offer both beginners and intermediates. Copperplate is the elegant script that is so often associated with wedding invitation design.

Session IV: Experimental Techniques
This is where we can "let it loose" and try new tools, pen angles, medium and just have a whole lot of fun exploring. This is Barb's favorite part - so it's bound to be full of surprises.

Studio is located at:
South Coast Village Art Studios
3851 Bear Street, Studio B
Costa Mesa, CA 92626
