Cards/ Portfolios/ Exciting Envelopes
 This workshop offers a good look at greeting card design. As a freelance designer for Marcel Shurman Co. in California, I find greeting cards to be wonderful miniature works of art. Unique, one-of-a-kind cards, as well as cards for reproduction will be presented. Also offered will be designing portfolios of many sorts to house the cards and interesting envelope designs that scream out "OPEN ME FIRST". These can be individual courses or touch on all combined.
Focus on Design
This is a fresh approach to design. My "idea bag" has lots to offer. We will take baby steps into the wonderful world of creativity, then be up and running with confidence in designing beautiful calligraphic art pieces you will be proud to show your Mom.
Paper Textures ( Collages)
 The word "collage" according to Webster, means ‘an artistic composition made of various materials glued on a picture surface; an assembly of diverse fragments. In this workshop we will be doing this very thing, compiling a composition of fragmented materials to serve as interesting and useful projects.
Watercolor Backgrounds for Calligraphers
and Other People too.
 Combining watercolor techniques with calligraphy can open up many wonderful new options to enhance your artwork. I love working in this medium! Discover these techniques and create beautiful, unique designs. Washes, masking, abstract floral treatments and unusual brush marks will be among the great experiments.
Monoline Play with No Fuss
 Many approaches will be utilized with monoline tools, along with looking at several styles in which to make use of these tools. Oh, so many designs and things to do, so little time!
Contemporary Designed Letters
Taking our beloved, traditional Roman style caps and let ‘em shake, rattle & roll to create very interesting new twists for today’s calligraphers.
Fabulous Inviting Invitations
 Ideas galore! We will work to create that "special look" for your special event. One -of-a-kind models will serve for future projects. This is an exciting approach to working with your paper design and lettering talents.
Copperplate & Beyond
 The Copperplate script has fascinated people for many years. It is one my personal favorites. The pointed pen is so versatile. The student will start with a basic knowledge of this beautiful script, then work in a more relaxed, informal way to look at a contemporary approach. Some knowledge of prior study of this hand is helpful.
Italic Boost
Sharpen your Italic stills. Come on, we can all use a refresher in this style of lettering! Let me show you an in-depth way to look at your Italic again. You just might have a whole new look!
Textured Letters
 These Versal-like letters are studied with the Roman proportions first, then shaken up a bit to color, embellish & texturize, to extremes. Everyone of them is so unique. Barbara guides us through design steps to help us create our own creations.
